Top 10 Favorite Homemade Meals for Medical Travelers

Being an emergency travel nurse has many of our Krucial Krew members missing the home-cooked, classic dishes they always enjoyed back home. We reached out to our Krucial Krew to ask what their favorite meal to cook is, and the answers did not disappoint.

Below are the top ten favorite recipes Krew members enjoy having when they are home. The recipes range from simple dishes many have weekly to fantastic meals you may or may not have thought about trying yet!

1. Cauliflower Mac and Cheese

This is an excellent option if you are trying to lower your carbs while still indulging in your childhood favorite – mac n’ cheese. This recipe gives you tips and tricks to ensure you have the perfect sauce that is not grainy or gritty.

 
2. Chicken Alfredo

Chicken Alfredo is such a staple when you are craving pasta but want to spice things up a bit. Many of our reservists responded with this being their “go-to” dish to cook. Who doesn’t love pasta?

3. Mexican Stuffed Peppers

Craving tacos, but tired of always eating tacos? No? Us neither! However, if you feel like switching it up, this is a great alternative option to get your craving in.

4. Vegetable Soup with Quinoa

This hearty soup with quinoa is a great way to get your vegetables and protein into your meals. Anyone can make this delicious meal since there are three ways to cook this meal: Crockpot, Instant Pot, and stovetop.

5. Gumbo

Calling all New Orleans natives – this is an essential dish to master. Be sure to make plenty as this recipe freezes well so do yourself a favor and make extra for a second dinner later in the week.

6. Fried Rice

Who doesn’t love a hot, steamy bowl of rice? Especially since you can add chicken, beef, shrimp, tofu, and/or so much more to spice it up!

7. Spaghetti

It is a classic pasta dish for any pasta lover, but this is a great chance to get rid of the bought spaghetti sauce and make your own. Do not forget the garlic bread and salad when you make this dish.

8. Roast with Veggies

A hearty dish to come home to after a long shift. This is a time-saver since this cooking while you are out working hard and making money.

9. Curry Chicken with Rice

Many, many of our reservists mentioned their love for curry chicken over rice. This delicious meal is cooked in one pot so no need to worry about many dishes when cooking this dinner!

10. Pancakes

We switched it up to end with the most important meal of the day staple: pancakes. This is the perfect weekend breakfast choice with a warm cup of coffee and a lovely view on a brisk spring morning.
